For the past four years, I have been traveling almost non-stop for my job. In a typical year, I spend at least 40 weeks on the road. Around the office, we call ourselves "road warriors." To be honest, the term "warrior" may sound extreme but it's quite accurate. Don't get me wrong, there are so many benefits to traveling as much as I do for my job. I've seen so many parts of the US that I never even imagined I would and stayed in some of the nicest hotels in the country. The hotel points and frequent flyer miles are an added perk as well. Last year, I was able to travel to the 2017 NCAA Final Four and watch my UNC Tarheels win the national championship for FREE!
Even though I enjoy all of these perks, its not always easy, especially on days like today. I'm currently on the road traveling but I would give anything to be spending time with my wife and sleeping in my own bed. Being a road warrior is lonely sometimes. There are so many things I have learned over the past four years that I wish someone would have told me before I embarked on this journey. For example, how to work out on the road and getting the most out of rewards programs. Over the next few weeks, I am going to be writing a blog series on business traveling. It is my hope that my experiences can help someone else.
