So last year wasn't exactly my best year in terms of physical fitness. Life just got the better of me. Between planning a wedding, traveling for work, working on an intense project, and dealing with other personal issues, I just could not find the time. I've always had issues with weight but, for the most part, I've maintained a 34 inch waist since high school. At my peak, I worked out at least 5-6 times a week. For the first time in a long time my clothes did not fit. I had to go from a 34 to a 36 in pants!
Well, like a lot of people, I told myself that at the beginning of the year, I am going to get back in shape. I knew what the goal was but I had to come up with a game plan. Right before new years, I stumbled across this app called Aaptiv. The app is a subscription service that includes thousands of workouts. I was a little hesitant at first. I'm normally a P90X kinda guy. I've had great results with that. Why reinvent the wheel? Well the app had great reviews so I decided to sign up for a free 30 day subscription.
When I first started using the app I was a little overwhelmed (in a good way.) There are so many workouts to choose from. All of the workouts are broken down into categories such as, indoor/outdoor running, elliptical, cycling, strength training, etc. The app even offers training programs for all types of running races.
The first workout I tried was called "Work Harder". I still have the mindset of a fit person so, of course, I picked one of the most intense strength training workouts the app offers. The workout followed a 10-20-30-40-50 rule which included burpees, push-ups, planks, crunches, and air squats. This was a continuous workout with no breaks. This workout kicked by butt! I actually didn't even finish the whole workout because it was so intense. This pleasantly surprised me because I was worried the workouts would be too easy. I've tried out other workouts as well and they have all been intense. Of course, if you want something with less intensity, there are plenty of beginner and intermediate workouts to choose from. One of the reasons I really like this app is because of the running training programs. At some point in my life, I want to run a full marathon but I want to work my way up to it. I started one of the 10k training programs and I am anxious to see how well the program actually prepares me.
Final Synopsis: I LOVE THIS APP! It's perfect for me, especially with my busy traveling schedule. Due to the wide range of workouts, I can workout in a hotel room, gym, or along the beach. The app is so versatile. I wish I could find something constructive to say about the app but I cant. Try it out and let me know what you think!
